IMP38 Male Adventurer free for all October 2016!

The bumper Prang Army month is now over and The Ion Age gives a big shout out to all those who took up on the big and bulky aliens all across the world. If you missed them then see them here (we have placed the Prang Ambassador on the page as a purchasable miniature outside of the Year Four Collection). October is here and we have some fun in 15mm space opera for you! Lots to know and here we go!

“What else goes on outside of the Prydian Civil War and the warring armies? Well while its not the focus of The Ion Age to look beyond the military we do have a place for speculation and that is in the monthly free miniature. Someone who takes no nonsense and can manage to make a living out of a fast draw and seeing the angle that makes the difference. A Male Adventurer in the grand tradition of space opera. So here he is! A unique looking miniature in 15mm scale that can be put in almost any scenario. He has no name...no need for one. I am sure all of you will give him an identity that suits just fine."

Back in 2014 (go HERE to read about it or HERE to purchase it) we released a Female Adventurer as the free monthly miniature and now we welcome the thirty eighth miniature in the series with IMP38 Male Adventurer. A 15mm human character which is free in every order every time all month before being retired. This miniature is automatically put into every order at the rate of one per order regardless of order value. It can also be bought in any amount on the monthly IMP page of the website for this month only too before being withdrawn on the first of next month. We are into Year Four now and if you missed it you can see the Year Three Collection on the website.

IMP38 Male Adventurer is a very versatile character who fits into any setting as a bounty hunter, a mercenary, a guard or anything else you would like. Standing 16mm tall and wearing rigid body armour while holding a large calibre semi-automatic Tumbler machine pistol and a sword he is a capable fellow. There is a growing page on the Ion Age website where the current and all former IMP series free miniatures are shown so that you can see what came before. Enjoy looking at what came before. Above you can see the Adventurer standing next to a vehicle which suits him very well the IAF054 Hazelwurm Patrol Car

We ask you to sign up for a website account with us on your first order. Why? For one reason only. Not to send you emails (we never will. If you want our emails sign up for our Mailchimp list on the right top of the blog) or to pester you; but only to keep track of the Reward Points that all orders with us earn. Prang Army in Patrol Angis free PDF download

A free expansion by PDF for Patrol Angis and today is the day. The Ion Age is happy to present The Prang Army in Patrol Angis as a multiple page PDF which contains fiction, statistics, tables, rank structure and optional test rules along with some photos using the miniatures. You will need the Patrol Angis book but aside from that all you need is in the PDF.

You can download the free PDF from our Dropbox account by clicking on this link HERE. Enjoy!

You can find all of the alien Prang designed by Eli Arndt on their page of our website HERE

Back in January we added the first new 15mm scale at The Ion Age from this alien race...the Prang Raiders! Created and sculpted by Eli Arndt (the fine fellow behind Loud Ninja Games and many SHM miniatures at our sister website 15mm.co.uk). The Prang Raiders have several codes plus a platoon pack too enough to build an entire force. And if you missed it at the time there is also a free Patrol Angis PDF for them too which you can download by clicking on this link HERE

I hope you enjoy these PDF's and if you have questions or feedback please do make contact with us. There are two other items to mention at this point in September as well. We have no more releases for the month and we have released the new Prang Army as well as two new Art Posters as well (the cover art of Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis) over the last two weeks but we have a special offer. 25% off the new now resin Havelock Battlesuit until the end of the month as well as a great article about the Barony of Malmsbury

Lastly every order this month gets the free IMP37 Prang Ambassador included automatically in the package which is great if you are getting into the Prang. You can learn more about each of these things by clicking on the links.

Thanks for Reading.

The Barony of Malmsbury on the edge of Prydian space

Looking out upon the unknown space beyond the bounds of the Prydian Precinct, where the wreckage lays, far from the core systems and further still from the war against the Khanate Empire is the Barony of Malmsbury.  Beginning the civil war within the ranks of the Yordan barons who sided with the Kingmaker Nevell the death of Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue saw Malmsbury switch sides and ally itself with the Throne in 4331 IC.  Now an enemy of the League of Yordan this single stellar system has the darkness to its back and the enemy still to its front.  Don't you just love the Havelock Battlesuit.  You can download this article as a PDF for free from our Dropbox by clicking HERE.

08 Barony of Malmesbury

The Barony of Malmsbury is located on edge of the Prydian Precinct in the Malmsbury stellar system.  This planet rich system contains two worlds capable of supporting life whose names are Rowde (Malmsbury III) and Broham (Malmsbury IV) as well as several gas giants and a molten rock orbiting its star very closely.  Contained to one system the Barony is not as wealthy as many others and not even as wealthy as some other single system Baronies.  This is due partially to being so distant to the core of the Precinct for trade and also to a lack of precious metals and arable land on the dusty world of Broham.

Until 4331 IC the noble family of Fintzhue ruled by baronial decree over the Malmsbury stellar system and came into conflict during the period of first Ancept expansion with neighbouring worlds (Broham which was held by the Strangen family) and then neighbouring systems such as Alix and Linnuis Prime during the late 4200's IC.  It fell to the final ruling member of the marcher family Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue to declare his support of the League of Yordan by attacking the Barony of Linnuis in a dishonest sneaking action using disguised commercial starships.  In this vicious assault the baron earned the moniker 'Pillager' due to his refusal to take prisoners as per the Code Gallant and for carrying off goods and valuable prisoners.

With his reputation as a wicked adventurer known to those baronies and condot companies in his region of space Baron Fintzhue carried out raids and damaging attacks upon the enemies of the League of Yordan. These actions included a hard fought repulsion of an invading task force of the veteran mercenaries of the Naranga Company of his home world of Rowde in 4326 IC which left him badly injured.  This injury led to a decreasingly stable mental state which in 4331 IC saw him deposed and then executed atop the ramparts of his fortress on Rowde in a coup which then declared its loyalty to Princess Cyon and the Aeddan Council.  Three regiments of the Prydian Army supported by condots of the Gryllus Company assisted in guiding the Barony of Malmsbury to peace.  It is headed by a cousin of 'the Pillager' the now Baron Alger Fintzhue.  Alger has adopted the Code Gallant and rules through cooperation with the Throne.

A Muster Fire-Team with Hazelwurm support
The military forces of the Barony of Malmsbury are focused upon the expansive use of regiments of Muster troops and a lot of Battlesuit support.  Due to the continual lack of hard currency the heavier armour and portable castles of the Barony are of older marks and tend towards wheeled and hover variants and limited use of Hurwent generators.  There are two hundred regiments of Muster equipped along standard Precinct patterns as well as a five million strong Rowde Planetary Militia and a one million strong Broham Planetary Militia.  There are ten regiments of Retained Knights who work closely with the Malmsbury Muster in all areas.  Much use is made of Havelock Battlesuits which are deployed in place of portable weapons and bikes at the platoon level.   Malmsbury has many personalised Havelocks and also full fabricator plants to assemble these battlesuits enmasse.  Portable Castles are mainly of the older Cassillis marks and Malmsbury possesses seventeen jump capable starships of the Serpentine and Griffin types.

A Malmsbury Havelock!
In the annuls of the Academy Auto Trainers held on New Glastonbury the most famous military campaign of the Barony of Malmsbury is that of repulsion of the invading Naranga Company on Rowde in 4326 IC.  Coming in from out system under heavy acceleration nine starships belonging to the Canlastrian backed mercenaries landed some thirty thousand veteran troops around the capital city Layswater on Rowde managing to do so before planetary defences could be sufficiently readied. With much of  the forces belonging to Malmsbury no where near it fell to the Rowde Planetary Militia as well as available Muster with Havelock support to mount a defence.  Led by Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue himself, who happened to be in Layswater, the fighting raged for nearly a week before the Baron put himself into the fray.  From the front he assaulted the toughest position held by the mercenaries and broke their hold while in the process being horribly burned by plasma fire from the enemy.  The Naranga Company boosted for orbit leaving their dead behind and escaped having failed to take the capital and force the surrender of the Barony to Canlaster.  It stands as an excellent example to new knights of how to repel an invader and is required study.

Malmsbury Hazelwurm with Female Muster Patrol Officer (IMP Year 1 collection)
A Malmsbury Muster FireTeam
Retained Knight front view in Malmsbury colours
Side View
The battle dress of the Barony of Malmsbury is recognised across the Prydian Precinct for its heraldry and legitimate claim to a stellar system.  It consists of a black uniform base with bright yellow detailing.  The baronial symbol used most widely for Malmsbury is a black lion rampant upon a bright yellow field.  This uniform is carried over into the Planetary Militia formations.  Malmsbury heavier vehicles and armour such as striders follow an emphasis upon brown with black and yellow to mark out their superior status on the battlefield.

Fielding this Force in Patrol Angis

For wargamers wishing to put the Marcher Baron forces of Malmsbury into their games of Patrol Angis the process is quite straight forward 15mm scale.  As this is a Prydian Precinct faction taking place during the period of the Civil War and after that the standard Prydian Army miniatures painted up as this Barony will suit the task ideally.  Suitable codes for use are IAFP07 Planetary Militia Platoon with Unique Miniature which will give you the militias of the home system along with IAF054 Hazelwurm and IAF061 Colebretta Carrier for their transport.  The bulk of Malmsbury is made up of Muster and Battlesuits and to that end we recommend a core force of IAFP04 Muster Platoon with Unique Miniature and IAF020 Havelock Battlesuits to make up your platoons.  Personalties for higher level command can come from IAF057 Knight Errants of Prydia and IAF004 Retained Knight Command Alpha.  You will of course need your copy of Patrol Angis to play. Assemble your force using the standard creation rules in the book to suit your take on this faction. Marcher Barons and Condot Mercenaries on the whole use the same armour, weapons and equipment as the Prydian Army with different uniform colours and heraldry.  Possibilities are endless!

You may have noticed the number heading this article.  This ties to the uniform reference on our Uniforms of the Prydian Precinct Poster which shows in detail thirty different uniforms of troops. See it HERE.

This concludes the introduction to the Barony of Malmsbury and we hope you enjoyed it and are inspired to take your place in the wars raging across the Prydian Precinct.

Cover Art of Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis Posters released!

We are delighted here at The Ion Age to announce the release of two more large artwork prints as posters on our website.  Following up on  Aris Kolehmainen's great Uniforms of the Prydian Precinct poster we bring you now the cover artwork by Sam Croes for our two 15mm scale wargame books. Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis to be exact and now you can get your hands on the pure art without the graphics overlay from the books in A3 high quality for your wall. This is our last release of the month. Go HERE or read on.

Patrol Angis Cover Art
Atop a downed Battlesuit the heroes gather as the foes circle all around.  Their weapons make fire to the fore as behind a rebelling city is lit aflame by the laser bombardment of a low floating starship. This is how I see the cover of Patrol Angis. Digitally drawn by our lead designer Sam Croes this poster print was made locally here in Scotland on high quality 200gsm paper using rich inks.  Its a premium product to grace your wargaming walls with.  Bare or in a frame.  Supplied carefully rolled.  The image is exactly A3 size (300mm by 420mm) while the full post it sits on has a white framing border making the total dimensions 320mm by 450mm.  As with all of our other products we offer you several purchase options.  You can purchase one poster print at a great price or three of the same one and automatically save 10% on screen.  You can also get the poster print signed by the artist.

Callsign Taranis Cover Art
Majesty and sheer ruddy terror is what I think of when I see those Taranis tanks.  Lethal instruments of war advancing over broken rocky ground while behind them the torn remains of their last enemies are burning.  This is how I see the cover of Callsign Taranis.

We have three other poster prints which you can choose from and we will have more in coming months as well.  They are PIA001 Ylona of Prydia,  PIA002 Gateway Nox and PIA003 Uniforms of Prydia.  Super pieces of art, inventive and great for your wall.  You can see our poster prints HERE.

We have now released everything for the month but we have a free PDF for the Prang Army in Patrol Angis coming soon online.  Lastly there will be a full article on this but our special offer for this month lasting until months end is the IAF020 Havelock Battlesuit one of our most popular original codes which is now in resin rather than metal and now comes with ALL the weapon variants on a sprue at the same price meaning more value plus it is 25% off.  See it HERE on the website.

Prang Army 15mm packs now released at The Ion Age!

Back in January 2016 we at The Ion Age welcomed the Prang to the 15mm range of miniatures. Since the release of the Prang Raiders their creator Eli Arndt has been hard at work sculpting the follow up for these hulking aliens...the Prang Army.  Now is the time and it gives me great delight to announce the release of the first two packs in the regular Prang Army.  Go HERE to see the range or read on for more information.  All of our miniature releases for the month!

Later this month we will be publishing a free PDF article for Patrol Angis giving an introduction to as well as game statistics for the Prang Army in play.  We are working on that right now and it will be a great resource.  The Prang Army is much better organised and equipped than the Raiders and it is against the Raider that they are presently fighting though they have agreed to a treaty with the Prydian Army to take the war to the Shia Khan Empire too.

IAF129 Prang Army Troopers
The core fire team for your alien Prang Army.  These miniatures are typical troopers with a variety of poses all with Blaster Rifles. This code contains five different white metal 15mm scale poses all wearing ceramic armour.  From left to right these are Prang Trooper with servo assist Blaster Rifle, Prang Sergeant with Blaster Rifle arm raised, Prang Trooper with Blaster Rifle advancing, Prang Trooper aiming Blaster Rifle and lastly Prang Trooper firing Blaster Rifle. These detailed miniatures are the height of a Human (around 17mm though they do go up to 20mm for the bigger Prang) but are much bulkier. Go HERE.  This code can be bought as a pack or as single miniatures or three packs saving 10% off list. Chose your option from the drop down menu on the page. Price per pack is 5.00GBP.

IAF130 Prang Army Support
The heavier weapon fire team for your alien Prang Army.  These miniatures are typical troopers with a variety of weapons. This code contains five different white metal 15mm scale poses all wearing ceramic armour.  From left to right these are Prang Sergeant with Blaster Rifle pointing, Prang Trooper with Arc Cannon and visor, Prang Trooper with Blaster Focus Cannon, Prang Trooper with Heavy Auto Cannon and lastly Prang Trooper with Sonic Stunner firing from the hip.

To see all of the Prang go to the website HERE.

Above are two comparison pictures showing the new Prang Army next to the existing Prang Raiders. There are many thousands of Prang miniatures out across the world and we hope that you can now see how these brand new soldiers compare to those in your existing collection.  Such fine detail and compatible nature to the Prang Raiders but different armour and equipment.  Excellent!

What other Prang do we have? Why the original Raiders of course.  As already stated the new Army is facing off against the mercenary meanies already in Prydian Space harassing Humans and nicking their possessions if not their very selves.  There are several packs including a value platoon of all fourteen poses with a small discount.

IAF109P Prang Raider Force (14)
IAF109 Prang Raiders (5)
IAF110 Prang Raider Support (5)
IAF111 Captain Bozar and Sherag (2)
IAF112 Prang Raider Command (2)

It is our intention to continue to expand the Prang Army with your assistance and custom into an entire force consisting of a core platoon with character packs plus larger items as well and even vehicles.  It begins here though with September's two new packs.

Information Burst!

Say hello to Ambassador Throag of the Prang who is the thirty seventh free monthly miniature.  A 15mm alien character which is free in every order every time all month before being retired. This miniature is automatically put into every order at the rate of one per order regardless of order value. It can also be bought in any amount on the monthly IMP page of the website for this month only too before being withdrawn on the first of next month.  We are into Year Four now and if you missed it you can see the Year Three Collection on the website.  IMP37 Prang Ambassador is a fantastic character in its own right for any science fiction setting but his real place is alongside Prydian forces or Prang Army fighting against Prang Raiders or the Shia Khan Empire. This miniature is in one piece and stands approx 20mm tall and is armed with a Tumbler SMG.

We have now released all of our miniatures for the month but we have more releases to come in the shape of two new posters and we have a free PDF for the Prang Army in Patrol Angis coming soon too.

IMP37 Prang Ambassador free for all September 2016!

Our anniversary month is now over and as the autumn begins to haul itself once more towards Scotland we are delighted to move into September and to tell you that this month is all about the Prang!  Yes, new Prang designed by Eli Arndt and for the first time a Prang free monthly miniature sculpted by Sam Croes.

“Following on the coat tails of the devastating incursions by Prang Raiders onto the surface of Faercycle II the military infrastructure upon the cold but valuable planet was increased.  This was in 4326 IC and the re-enforced Planetary Militia under General Canvarus held the line with the assistance of a small force of Retained Knights of the 157th Regiment.  Orbital space was not compromised and the aliens were wiped out after refusing to surrender when they could not get uplift from the surface.  The processing of titanium continued for the war effort.  It was not long after this that initial contact was made with the Prang proper rather than the raiders whom up to that point were the only representatives of the race encountered.  A peaceful delegation of two small Ancep Drive equipped starships landed at Ismere starport and were received by a planetary delegation rather than a military escort as a sign of our intention to avoid conflict.

It took two days and a lot of head scratching but eventually a means of communication was established using a combination of sign language and object comparison.  Shortly after this General Canvarus met with the planetary governor and a Prang named Throag.  Throag would be the ambassador to Prydian Space and to Humankind.   I will admit that strolling around Ismere with an alien some three times the bulk of a man did raise some interesting situations.  But we made efforts and so did the aliens to make peace with the people of Faercycle II and Throag made what amends he could for the raiders actions with apologies, promises and gifts of luxuries and clothing as was the Prang custom.  We did turn to the core of the arrangement after that which was simply put that the Prydian Army and the Prang team up to foil and then destroy the raiders upon their next incursion.

Ambassador Throag shared the knowledge that the lush farming world of Myrdan III would be the next target with the aim of carrying off people and crops.  A task force was organised and dispatched to the nearby Myrdan stellar system.  This was in 4328 IC and the raid was countered and for the first time we saw the regular Prang Army take on rogue members of their own kind.  Caught in a pincer on the ground and in local space all three of the raider ships were destroyed and the threat removed.  After this and a period of time touring that star cluster and other minor skirmishes the Ambassador was conveyed to the New Glastonbury system in 4330 IC and became the first alien to set foot upon the Tor in at least a thousand years.

Thanks in large part to the allied defence of Myrdan III and the good works of Ambassador Throag the Prang have now begun sending troops and vehicles to aid us in the growing war against the Shia Khan Empire in Camarthen space.  We need all the help we can get.
Governor Aldo Lefarge of Faercyle II.  4331 IC
